Field visit to HaoZhi village in Guizhou Province, China

A team of four from CCOUC departed on Friday, 9th March, to Haozhi village located in the West of Guizhou province, China. The village is largely composed of the miao (苗 ), yi (彛) and buyi (布依) ethnic minorities, around 300 households, and a population of about 1,000. The village’s economy depends on local agriculture produce, such as corn and wheat, in addition to a substantial migrant workforce; most households in the village earn less than RMB 2,000 annually, and is considered a population living in absolute poverty according to the UNDP definition.

The team visited the village to conduct health needs assessment through households surveys and focus groups, attempting to identify villagers health behaviors and other health-related knowledge gap for future interventions. Moreover, this visit aims to evaluate the impact of disasters to the village as well as villager’s disaster preparedness-related knowledge, attitude and practices.
